Summary

The term "Grapefruit League" is the name for all the major-league teams that hold their spring training in Florida. According to Paul Dickson's excellent book The New Dickson Baseball Dictionary (1999), the term "spring training" was first used by writer Horace C. Renegar in the Arizona Republic newspaper on Jan. 14, 1929.
In early 2008, 17 teams will hold their preseasons in the Sunshine State. However, the news is not all good for the Grapefruit League. The Dodgers and the Indians are planning to hold their spring training in Arizona, beginning in 2009.
