Culpepper became only the third athlete in NCAA history to finish his career with over 10,000 passing yards and 1,000 rushing yards. Alcorn State alum Steve McNair and Idaho's Doug Nussmeier also did so.
The 6-4, 265 lb. quarterback completed seven seasons with the Vikings, working with pro-bowl receiver Randy Moss. He led the team to its second playoff appearance in 2004, earned his third Pro Bowl appearance and had his best statistical season including a team record 39 touchdowns. He experienced a career low the following season and suffered a devastating knee injury, tearing three major ligaments, during an Oct. 30, 2005 loss to the Carolina Panthers.
Culpepper was traded to the Miami Dolphins in 2006 where he experienced a rocky relationship with then-coach Nick Saban. He spent the majority of the season on injury reserve rehabbing his knee and shoulder injury. On July 31, 2007, he was signed to the Oakland Raiders as a free agent and entered his ninth NFL season.
