The King, otherwise known as Richard Petty, is the most revered race car driver in NASCAR history. He won 200 races and finished in the top 10 712 times. Born on July 2, 1937, he was the son of Lee Petty, also an accomplished driver. Petty won the NASCAR championship a record seven times and also won the sport's most celebrated race the Daytona 500 seven times. Petty retired as an active race car driver after the 1992 season after a long dry spell. He won his final race, the Firecracker 400 at the Daytona International Speedway in 1984.
