Bergeron Rodeo Grounds

The Bergeron Rodeo Grounds & Entertainment Center, located in Davie, Florida's historical downtown district, is billed by the town as its main tourist attraction. The 5,000-seat arena, at 1471 Davie Road, holds professional rodeos year-round and is part of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association circuit. The arena also hosts concerts, specialty rodeos such as the Florida Gay Rodeo Association's Sunshine Stampede, and special events, including horse shows, dog shows and car shows. The facility is owned by the town of Davie, but carries the Bergeron name to recognize the family's contributions to the arena. The Bergeron Rodeo Grounds & Entertainment Center, located in Davie, Florida's historical downtown district, is billed by the town as its main tourist attraction. The 5,000-seat arena, at 1471 Davie Road, holds professional rodeos year-round and is part of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association circuit. The arena also hosts concerts, specialty rodeos such as the Florida Gay Rodeo Association's Sunshine Stampede, and special events, including horse shows, dog shows and car shows. The facility is owned by the town of Davie, but carries the Bergeron name to recognize the family's contributions to the arena. In 1995, local developer Ron Bergeron donated $150,000 to the town for the purchase of an additional 10 acres for arena parking. The rodeo grounds were then named in his honor. Bergeron later donated $160,000 to landscape and pave the entryway, which is marked by a large white horse. Bergeron's father, Percy Bergeron, was one of the original builders and supporters of the arena along with Claude Tindall. In 1977, the arena was dedicated to Tindall, one of 17 residents who built the arena and put on the town's first rodeos with donated livestock. The history of the rodeo itself is fuzzy. Those who were around for its birth say it opened in 1939 or 1940. They recall the date by associating it with weddings or the birth of children. Many still refer to it as the Davie Rodeo Grounds.
