The idea that the winner of the Breeders' Cup Juvenile would get the same number of points as the horse that was fourth in the Florida Derby ... that's got to be out of whack.
Obviously, some of the top fillies not having any points seems wrong, so they probably have to tweak with that a little bit. You do feel bad for a horse that wins the Breeders' Cup Juvenile and he's not automatically in. But they really want you not to rest on your laurels of your 2-year-old campaign, and really work hard as a 3-year-old developing and earning that trip to the Kentucky Derby ... So, I think it's added some intrigue and some strategizing to everybody.
I think all the things everyone has talked about from the beginning still apply ... That's my only issue with it: It minimizes 2-year-old racing. I think that's probably something that will be addressed, whether it's only for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile or not. ... I think Churchill has done a good job with it. They're going to have to continually look at it and improve it. But for the first try, it's gone pretty smoothly.More quotes »
