American icon and Sesame Steet star Kermit the Frog, created by puppeteer Jim Henson, on display on April 11, 2012 at the Smithsonian Mueseum of American History in Washington, DC, during the press preview for “American Stories,” a signature new exhibition showcasing stories about the American experience. “American Stories,” opening April 12, takes the visitor on a journey through time by telling well and little-known stories about the American experience. In 5,300 square feet, “American Stories” features an engaging mix of the famous, the familiar and the unexpected. Through more than 100 objects, visitors can follow a chronology of American history that spans the Pilgrims’1620 arrival in Plymouth, Massachusetts, through the 2008 Presidential election.
