Preet Bharara, United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, announces federal corruption charges againt New York State Senator Malcolm Smith and New York City Council member Daniel Halloran at a press conference April 2, 2013 in New York. The FBI says Smith and City Councilman Dan Halloran were arrested early Tuesday at their homes for allegedly plotting to rig the New York City mayor's race. Bharara said in a statement that Smith 'tried to bribe his way' into a shot at the New York City mayoral race.
