Royce Spencer Clayton (born January 2, 1970 in Burbank, California) is a major league shortstop who is currently a free agent. He was drafted in the first round (15th pick overall) of the 1988 amateur draft by the San Francisco Giants, and made his major league debut for the Giants on September 9, 1991. In 1997 he was selected to represent the St. Louis Cardinals at the Major League Baseball All-Star Game. In the 2002 film The Rookie, Royce Clayton is played by Jorge Sanchez in a brief appearance. The 1999 time frame portrayed in the film shows Clayton playing for the Texas Rangers.
