Advance prep: Rinse and crumple
Not acceptable: pots, pans, solid non-foil aluminum, knives, forks, small appliances
MATERIAL : Cans (metal, aluminum food, beverage and aerosol cans)
Advance prep: Empty cans, rinse, place loose lids inside food cans, labels may be left on, can be crushed, remove tops from aerosol cans.
Not acceptable: cardboard cans with metal rims, containers with hazardous residue such as paint, oven cleaner or medical waste (i.e., syringes)
MATERIAL : Clear, green and brown glass bottles and jars
Advance prep: rinse, labels and lids can be left on
Not acceptable: windo panes, ceramics, mirrors, drinking glasses or Pyrex, containers with hazardous residue or medical waste, broken glass
MATERIAL : License plates
Advance prep: clean
MATERIAL : Only plastic containers with a 1 or 2 imprinted inside the recycling logo underneath the item
Advance prep: rinse, labels may be left on, can be crushed
Not acceptable: Tupperware, Rubbermaid, etc., toys (regardless of recycling code imprinted on item), Styrofoam, plastic bags, motor oil containers, unmarked containers, 5-gallon buckets, containers with hazardous residue such as lawn, garden or pool-care items, laundry baskets.
MATERIAL : Wire clothes hangers
Advance prep: : remove paper and cardboard
MATERIAL : Brown paper bags
Advance prep: pack in brown paper grocery bags or tie in bundles with twine
MATERIAL : Corrugated cardboard
Advance prep: flatten and tie in bundles with twine; bundles may not weigh more than 50 lbs., must be clean, do not place in CURBY can or garbage can
Not acceptable: wax-coated boxes, soiled boxes, lightweight, uncorrugated cardboard (shoe boxes, gift boxes, cereal boxes)
MATERIAL : Junk mail/magazines/catalogs/mixed paper
Advance prep: mix together an pack in brown paper grocery bags; do not place in same bag as newspapers or in CURBY can; remove covers from hard-covered books and discard covers with regular trash, place pages in brown paper bag with mixed paper. Can be shredded
Not acceptable: plastic bags, carbon paper, blueprints
MATERIAL : Newspapers and inserts
Advance prep: pack in brown paper grocery bags or tie in bundles with twine; do not place in same bag as mixed paper. Include only clean newspapers. Do not place in CURBY can, garbage can or cardboard box.
Not acceptable: soiled newspapers, plastic bags, platic string or wire, do not set out loose newspapers
