Where to go for latkes

As they used to say, "You don't have to be Jewish to love Levy's." And you don't have to be Jewish to love latkes. This is the season to eat them, so we've listed seven restaurants where you can get them.

MANHATTAN

Fine and Schapiro. The Jewish deli on the Upper West Side has potato pancakes on the menu for both lunch and dinner. (138 West 72nd Street; 212-877-2721. $9.95)

Veselka. The classic Ukranian restaurant on the Lower East Side serves a plateful of potato pancakes for $7.75. (144 Second Avenue; 212-228-9682)

Carnegie Delicatessen. The famous deli has side orders of potato pancakes for $3.95. (854 Seventh Avenue; 212-757-2245)

Artie's Deli. Not as well-known as some other delis, Artie's serves up a fine sandwich; they've got potato pancakes as an appetizer, for $2.95. (2290 Broadway; 212-579-5959)

Odessa. Potato pancakes with sour cream are on the menu for $3. And they're open 24 hours, so in case you get a craving some time around 4 in the morning, it's nice to know where to go. (119 Avenue A; 212-253-1482)

G & M Kosher Deli. They serve latkes as an appetizer, for a buck-fifty. If that doesn't satisfy you, you can always try the house's very own knishdog, a knish stuffed with a hot dog. (41 Essex Street; 212-677-0090)

Sammy's Roumanian. Latkes with applesauce are $6.95 at this Kosher standby. (157 Chrystie Street; 212-673-0330)

Stage Delicatessen. Potato pancakes with applesauce and sour cream go for $13.95. (834 Seventh Avenue; 212-245-7850)

BROOKLYN

Christina's. At this unpretentious Polish restaurant, the potato pancakes come on their own for $4.75. Or you can get them with a main course of beef goulash, for $6. (853 Manhattan Avenue; 718-383-4382)

Teresa's. They serve up warming Eastern European food at this Polish restaurant in Brooklyn Heights; potato pancakes go for $6.95 (80 Montague Street; 718-797-3996)
