Meli Melo on Madison and 30th has some of the best appetizers and prices around. They might not serve "tradional" tapas, but they have the best bar menu in town. Every thing from crab cakes to steak in a price range of $5 to $12.

I love the bar at Urena. They have a great selection of tapas. Very authentic and quite filling. Also, Cafe Condesa is great and well priced. Very friendly atmosphere with a few bar seats. I've heard Alta is great too, but haven't been.

Mike's restaurant on W. 4th Street in Manhattan has superb small plates. Only drawback is staff is extremely unresponsive. Ask them a simple question and they just give you a blank stupid stare..

I love Chinos's at 173rd 3rd avenue btwn 16th and 17th in Manhattan. They have great Asian inspired tapas. What makes everything so special is their sauces: white miso dressings, chili lime dipping sauce, green peanut sauce..they also use local produce from Greenmarket!

Bar Carrera!!! Its located on second ave and not far from 11th street. Wonderful exotic small plates with a twist. Great wine list too. Inexpensive yet tastes like a million bucks!
