As a road trip, the Overseas Highway has just about everything going for it.
The scenery over the Seven Mile Bridge is as spectacular as it gets. The history of the road couldn't be more interesting -- it was built in the path of a Henry Flagler's Florida East Coast railway, which was destroyed in the monstrous 1935 hurricane. It would be hard to find a road with more diverse stops -- from postcard-perfect beaches to a marina where you can feed 6-foot-long tarpon. And at the end of the road is Key West, a world-class destination.
We've outlined a dozen stops along the Overseas Highway for your next Keys roadtrips. You'll be following a numbering system of mile markers, which count down as you head south, ending with Key West at zero.
