You've heard of umami, right? The so-called "fifth taste"? Even if you haven't, you've tasted it. It naturally occurs in some foods, from tomatoes to Parmesan cheese, and is also manufactured (MSG!). This event celebrates umami and is the closing event at the Food Book Fair. There will be a lecture by the professor and author Ole G. Mouritsen ("Umami: Unlocking the Secrets of the Fifth Taste") followed by a tasting prepared by the Chez Jose chefs Jose Ramirez-Ruiz and Pamela Yung. $50.
