Lincoln Center celebrates 50 with summer events
Fifty years ago Thursday, President Dwight D. Eisenhower dug the first shovel into the ground for Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. On Monday, Mayor Michael Bloomberg kicked off the anniversary year, which includes events by all 12 of the resident organizations, plus special concerts, film marathons and free outdoor events. Although massive renovations continue and the famous plaza fountain isn't yet finished, the party has officially begun. Here are some highlights:
