New York's Adirondacks

Lakes (more than 3,000 of them), mountains (more than 100 over 3,000 feet) and unbroken forest (often as far as the eye can see) combine to create the splendor that is New York's Adirondacks.

Chazy Lake near Dannemora, N.Y., in the northern Adirondack Mountains is surrounded by a blaze of orange and red foliage. In an area as vast as the Adirondacks, the range of trees for leaf-peeping is impressive. The region is home to black ash, green ash and white ash, gray birch, black birch and yellow birch, red maple, black oak, white oak and aspen, the last to turn colors.
