In Chinese culture, the number 8 is lucky; at the Mirror Lake Inn Resort and Spa it means great fun. The Lake Placid resort and spa is offering a "Crazy 8's" weekend package for - when else? - Aug. 8.

Guests will start their stay with eight homemade chocolate-chip cookies, followed by a challenging 8-mile hike up one of the famous Adirondack High Peaks. How else to keep those cookies off your hips? Afterward, guests will enjoy eight spa treatments, including a maple-sugar body scrub, heated river stone therapy or a signature water massage. Topping off the evening: an eight-course tasting menu at the View, Mirror Lake Inn's AAA Four Diamond restaurant. Package price for two, which includes an Adirondack breakfast both days, is $1,888; single person, $1,658 (taxes and gratuity additional).

Campton Place in San Francisco is offering a range of one- to three-day packages for shopaholics, wine tasters, foodies and even movie buffs. Shop at Union Square, where major department stores and luxury boutiques rule. Campton Place will provide a $150 Gumps gift card with a $100 shipping credit. The package, valid through June 20, costs $475 for a deluxe room, $599 for a suite.

Not the shopping type? The Campton Place helps guests rejuvenate with a one-night-stay package (double occupancy) at either the nearby LaBelle Day Spa or Kamala Spa. Campton will provide welcome drinks upon arrival, two $125 gift cards for treatments and complimentary deluxe bath amenities from Molton Brown valued at $60. Package is $535 for a deluxe room and $659 for a suite, available through Dec. 31, 2008.

There is such a thing as a free lunch - at least for kids. Through Dec. 23, Divi Village Golf and Beach Resort in Aruba is offering "Free Kids, Free Golf," where kids 17 and younger stay and eat free and adults can play unlimited golf after 3 p.m. Guests can splash around in three freshwater swimming pools, play tennis, scale a rock wall or watch movies under the stars. Rates start at $220 per adult a night. Reservations made by May 16 get an additional 10 percent discount.

The bloom is on the rose and other flowers this May in London at the Royal Horticultural Society's Chelsea Flower Show.
