Before detraining, I surveyed some fellow passengers about their onboard experiences. Here's what they had to say:
Eric Lange, 44, a branch manager at Roslyn Savings Bank in Islip: "This was the first time we traveled on Amtrak as a family. I would do it again. It was very enjoyable."
Deborah Lange, 42, a second-grade teacher at Central Blvd. School in Bethpage: "I thought the trip was very relaxing. It actually gave me time to sit with my feet up and read, something a working mother rarely has time to do."
The Lange children (Tyler, 13, Carly, 11 and Julia, 5): "We thought the ride would be torture,
but it was fun. We loved to look outside and see the different towns we rode through."
The Damiano girls (Justine, 15, and Julia, 10): "The trip was more enjoyable than the car, and you don't feel cramped like you do on an airplane."
