If you're planning a summer vacation, now's the time to book your airfare. After AirTran announced its first summer fare sale of 2010 earlier this week, American, Delta and several other airlines joined the frenzy, and it's pretty much a free- (or low-cost) for-all.

A quick search on AirTran.com this morning turned up $89 one-way fares to Orlando, $97 to Cancun and $194 to Aruba, a route which almost never goes on sale.

But to get the deep discounts, you have to act now; they're only going to be available until midnight Thursday night, and your roundtrip travel must be completed by Nov. 16, with some blackout dates and a 10-day advance-purchase requirement.

Prices vary, but we found the best deals available for travel on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

To get the best deals, use a multi-airline search site like Kayak, Orbitz, Travelocity or Expedia to narrow your search, then check individual airline sites before booking.
