'Va is for Lovers' up for national nod
RICHMOND, Va. - RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — The tourism slogan "Virginia is for Lovers" is in the running for the top slogan on the Madison Avenue Advertising Walk of Fame.
Virginia's State Tourism Office says supporters can vote for the slogan at www.advertisingweek.com/wof. Winners will be inducted in to the Walk of Fame at the end of September.
The nomination coincides with the 40th anniversary of the slogan, which was launched in 1969. It is America's longest-running state tourism slogan.
The slogan also was named by Forbes.com as one of the top 10 tourism marketing campaigns of all time.
Officials say tourism generates $19 billion in revenue, supports 210,000 jobs and provides $1.2 billion in state and local taxes for Virginia's communities.
