A year ago, Buster Posey was rehabbing from an ugly fractured fibula and torn ligaments in his ankle. On Thursday, he was called the National League's best.

Posey, who helped lead the San Francisco Giants to their second World Series title in three years, took home MVP honors in the NL. He was named first on 27 of 32 ballots to beat out last year's MVP Ryan Braun of the Milwaukee Brewers, who was second and earned three first-place votes.

The All-Star catcher led the league with a .336 batting average. He also hit 24 home runs and knocked in 103 runs in what was his first full season in the big leagues.

Posey was already honored in October as the NL Comeback Player of the Year. He was limited to just 45 games in 2011 after suffering a season-ending injury in a home-plate collision.

In 2010, he was named the NL Rookie of the Yeardespite only being called up in late May. The Giants also won the World Series that year.

Mets third baseman David Wright finished sixth in the voting.
