‘Compound’: Large-scale Cambodian art installation
As part of the citywide Season of Cambodia: A Living Arts Festival — which will celebrate Cambodia’s arts, culture and humanities throughout April and May — Brookfield Place will feature “Compound,” a large-scale installation made of bamboo and rattan that is a commentary on the recent construction boom and depletion of natural resources in the Cambodian capital of Phom Penh. Caroline Kennedy
Caroline Kennedy is spouting poetry yet again in her newest anthology, “Poems To Learn By Heart.” She’ll be signing copies at Barnes & Noble Union Square Tuesday. A companion to her New York Times bestseller “A Family of Poems,” this book features more than one hundred poems divided into sections about nature, sports, monsters and fairies, and friendship and family, each featuring an introduction by Kennedy reflecting on her famous family's love of poetry. Bach’s ‘Goldberg Variations’
If you're a classical music fan, or just want to escape the noise of the city with a calming musical interlude, come hear acclaimed pianist Simone Dinnerstein present her take on Bach’s “Goldberg Variations” at this lunchtime concert. This Thursday, join guest curator Dr. Leslie King-Hammond for a FREE tour of “Ashe to Amen: African Americans and Biblical Imagery” at the Museum of Biblical Art. King-Hammond will discuss how African-American artists used inspiration from biblical figures and allegories to create works of art that reflected on their lives and experiences at the turn of the 20th century. Game of Thrones Traveling Exhibition
Enter the world of Westeros in this immersive traveling exhibit that focuses on key characters from five of the noble houses in HBO’s hit show “Game of Thrones,” and includes more than 70 original artifacts — such as costumes, props, armor and weapons — from Seasons 1 and 2, as well as select pieces from the new season. The Backwater Bay Interactive Experience places you amid the action of the battle and you can snap photos on the Iron Throne.
