'Torn in Two: The 150th Anniversary of the Civil War'
If you're an amateur cartographer or even just a history buff, then you should make a beeline for the new exhibit at the Grolier Club. Opened yesterday and running through April 28, "Torn in Two: The 150th Anniversary of the Civil War" uses maps and other historic items to tell the story behind the epic conflict. Check out 50 historical items, including maps, photographs, prints, political cartoons, letters, autographs and contemporary press accounts of the Civil War era. (Mon.-Sat., 10 a.m.-5 p.m., FREE, Grolier Club, 47 E. 60th St., 212-838-6690, grolierclub.org)

Singing

Family Workshop: Shape Note Sing-Along
Show off your singing chops this Sunday! Stop by the Brooklyn Youth Chorus Academy to give your pipes a workout with shape-note singing expert Aldo Ceresa. The Shape Note Sing-Along requires no previous experience and is open to all ages. If you do stop by, you'll be invited to sing with the Brooklyn Philharmonic in its March 24 and 25 Brooklyn Village performances, which will be a deliberate throwback to the 1820s, when American shape-note singing rang throughout the nation. (Sunday, 1-2:30 p.m., FREE, Brooklyn Youth Chorus Academy, 179 Pacific St., 718-488-7016, bphil.org)
