City incumbents retain seats in Election Day races

Several key races for congress and the State Legislature were decided Tuesday night. Many incumbents retained their seats.

Here are the results of the most watched elections.

U.S. Senate

Junior Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand fended off a challenge from GOP candidate Wendy Long to retain her seat with more than 4 million votes or 72%.

House of Representatives

Despite being investigated by the federal government in a campaign finance scandal, Rep. Mike Grimm won re-election with 52.78% of the vote, defeating his Democratic challenger, Mark Murphy.

State Senate

Sen. Joseph Addabbo (D) defeated City Councilman Eric Ulrich (R) with 57.27% of the vote for the district that covers southern and central Queens.

State Assembly

A censure by the Assembly's ethics committee didn't seem to deter Brooklyn voters as 89.75% of them chose to keep Vito Lopez in office. He faced a challenge from GOP candidate Richy Garcia.
