Corruption investigations climbed in 2012: Department of Investigation

The City's Department of Investigation had a good year with numerous investigations that uncovered cases of corruption inside various city agencies.
New Yorkers filed 12,200 complaints with the DOI and the agency said it took each case seriously.
In 2012, the department made 834 arrests, a 14% jump from the previous year.
It also closed 1,370 fraud and corruption cases including convicting former City Councilman Larry Seabrook on wire fraud for using taxpayer dollars to pay for a nonprofit that his family and friends ran.
DOI also recovered $500 million from the prime vendor of the CityTime project.
"In the past decade, DOI has broken new ground in corruption fighting, exposing fraud involving city-funded nonprofits, improving city operations by remedying vulnerabilities found during investigations and recovering millions of dollars for the city's taxpayers," DOI Commissioner Rose Gill Hearn said in a statement.
