Mayor Mike Bloomberg isn’t turning the other cheek over a former teacher who turned tricks.

The mayor said Wednesday that he supports getting former prostitute Melissa Petro out of the classroom, and that the city is investigating the legal issues of her recently acquired tenure.

“The first thing that I did on Friday night when I was informed … I said well you know, ‘Call her. Tell her that she is being removed from the classroom,’ ” the mayor said.

“What our legal rights are, whether she broke the law in terms of applying and getting tenure or whether the system just broke down that's being investigated,” he said.

Petro, 30, got tenure Sept. 7 at P.S. 70 in the Bronx, but Monday she was reassigned to administrative work. It’s unclear whether P.S. 70 knew about her past when Petro was given tenure.

The Department of Education’s Office of Special Investigations is investigating the case.

Earlier this month, Petro wrote a column for Huffington Post, in which she said she solicited Johns on Craigslist.

“From October 2006 to January 2007 I accepted money in exchange for sexual services I provided to men I met online in what was then called the ‘erotic services’ section of Craigslist.org,” Petro wrote.

Petro couldn’t be reached for comment, and calls to P.S. 70 went unanswered.
