Former Mayor Ed Koch, who is being treated at New York-Presbyterian for recurring fluid retention and anemia, is improving, but has not been told when he might expect to be released from the hospital, said his spokesman, George Arzt.

"He's still undergoing tests, and they're trying to get the fluid out," but he is feeling more comfortable, said Arzt.

Koch, 88, took pleasure in hearing that many of the candidates for his previous job attended the premiere of the new biographical documentary "Koch," at MoMA Tuesday night, and relished hearing details about the event, said Arzt.

The premiere itself "had a real sense of poignancy," given the absence of its star, who had hoped to attend, said Arzt.

Koch was hospitalized for the fourth time in five months on Monday.
