Queens man killed by F train, 2nd death in 2 days in the boro
A man was hit and killed by an F train in Queens Thursday, the second death in the borough in as many days, according to officials.
The 39-year-old man was hit by at the Briarwood/Van Wyck station around 10:30 a.m. after jumping in front of a northbound F train, according to the NYPD. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
On Wednesday, an unidentified man was killed at the Roosevelt Avenue/Jackson Heights station after reportedly jumping in front of it.
Subway deaths have been under heavy scrutiny with 11 so far this year, as politicians call on the MTA to explore ways to prevent them.
Earlier this month, Council Member and Chair of the Transportation Committee James Vacca held an emergency hearing into the recent rash of deaths, and in January, Manhattan borough President Scott Stringer sent a letter to the MTA inspector general asking for an investigation into the cause of subway deaths and how the frequency can be reduced.
