First-year Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine is no stranger to encounters with the Yanks, and the testiness extends back to his time with the Mets. Here are some memorable moments:

Oct. 2000: During the World Series, a desperate Valentine accuses the Yankees of intentionally softening the dirt around home plate to help ground-ball pitcher Andy Pettitte.

Dec. 2011: Valentine tells reporters that "hates the Yankees" - and then facepalms when he realizes that his words are about to make instant headlines.

March: Valentine gripes when Yankees manager Joe Girardi claims his team doesn't have enough pitching to continue a spring training game between the two rivals with the score tied going into the 10th inning.
