Ronny Turiaf Knicks Diary: Gallo, Timo and I
’Tis the season, New York! Wishing all of our incredible fans a happy and healthy holiday! As we enter the new year, I’ve decided to look back on all of the great experiences I’ve had so far as a Knick.
First, I’ve met some lifelong friends in two teammates: Gallo (Danilo Gallinari) and Timo (Timofey Mozgov). We’ve even formed our own European Union (French-speaking Martinique, Italy and Russia); if you’re ever in the locker room, you’ll notice we’ve pretty much taken over one-third of it (lol). Some of the other guys have petitioned to join the Union as free agents, so we currently have applications out to Amar'e and assistant coach Phil Weber and are also accepting applications from Knicks fans!
As I'm sure you can tell this team really enjoys playing together, which has aided in our confidence and success on the court. Along with my gaining great friendships, joining the Madison Square Garden family has also allowed me to continue my philanthropic endeavors through the Garden of Dreams Foundation. Throughout my entire career community involvement has been extremely important. I started the Ronny Turiaf Heart-To-Heart Foundation in 2009 and since I've looked to expand its reach through partnerships with established organizations. When I was first told by Knicks personnel about Garden of
Dreams, I felt it was fate that I be a part of an organization with priorities so similar to my own.
Within the first few months of the season I'd met 12-year old Jack Gilroy, a boy involved with the Garden of Dreams who had been born with a serious heart condition requiring a transplant. We spent the day together at our training center in Westchester playing ball, comparing our favorite soccer players and discussing our similar medical histories. Just last week, Gallo and I took three children from the Children's Aid Society, an organization serviced by Garden of Dreams, to the Radio City Christmas Spectacular. We got a special behind-the-scenes tour from the Rockettes — what a special day it was for the kids.
This week it’s back to business with two big home games. Bonne Fetes! (Happy Holidays!)
