St. Anthony's Kyle Cunningham finishes second in Catholic state tournament

St. Anthony's junior Kyle Cunningham headlined a trio of top-ten finishers from Long Island at this week's NYSCHSAA boys golf tournament.

Cunningham shot a 1-over 72 at James Baird State Park on Friday to finish in second in the state.

The junior finished one stroke behind the state's top player, Fordham Prep junior Cameron Young.

Sayville wins Suffolk team title

While they may have been playing an individual sport, the players on Sayville’s boys golf team gave a total team effort this week.

Sayville captured the Suffolk County team championship Thursday at Rock Hill Golf Club, with a score of 805, edging Ward Melville (824) and Huntington (834).

Cold Spring Harbor's Chris Gabriele wins Nassau individual title, Syosset takes team crown

Chris Gabriele played his final county golf tournament Wednesday and finished it the best way possible.

The Cold Spring Harbor senior shot an even-par 142 over two rounds at Bethpage to claim the Nassau County individual title.

Gabriele shot a 72 on Tuesday at Bethpage Blue and a 70 Wednesday at Bethpage Red.

Chaminade boys golf wins CHSAA team title

Chaminade is CHSAA boys golf champion again.

The Flyers completed the program's second straight unbeaten season, going 12-0 in league play and 13-0 overall. It is also the team's sixth league title in seven years.

Chaminade also captured the league postseason title with a victory in Tuesday's CHSAA championships.

While Chaminade now has a different coach, its top golfers and winning ways have stayed the same.

Joe Horan has taken the reigns from James Hock, who retired after leading Chaminade to a 12-0 record and CHSAA boys title last year. Led by Chris Van Praag and Kenny Doyle, Horan’s Flyers have picked up where Hock left off, and have started the season 3-0.
