NY Rising demos first home on Long Island

The demolition of the Mastrogiannis family’s home in Freeport was the first demolition of hundreds of properties damaged by superstorm Sandy on Oct. 29, 2012. The home, and others, were sold to NY Rising, the state agency administering federal relief funds to victims, which then planned to knock them down to make way for a better, more storm-resilient property. (Credit: Steve Pfost)
