On Long Island, there are many great places to visit during the summer. One great spot is the Fire Island Lighthouse.
This amazing landmark was completed and lit in 1858 and still attracts thousands of visitors. It is 168 feet tall. When you visit the lighthouse, you can climb the 192 steps and view the Atlantic Ocean, or you can go to the building next door and see the lighthouse's original lens, which magnified the light many times so it could be seen for many miles.
It is a first order Fresnel lens, and it gave off a white flash every minute. I am sure you will enjoy its rich history. For more, check the website: fireislandlighthouse.com
