Dobbs Ferry choir gets special invite to NYC concert
A class of fifth-graders at a Dobbs Ferry elementary school will be the youngest choir invited to sing in the Bernard Kaplan Memorial Holiday Concert in Manhattan on Friday.
The Springhurst Elementary School students will perform five original songs written by their music teacher, George Sweitlicki. The lyrics to the program, titled "We Are All America," were written by Dobbs Ferry resident Laurence Holzman and Felicia Needleman. The songs tell the stories of immigrant families from around the world journeying to America.
The students were invited after auditioning for a slot at the concert.
The free public concert is at 5 p.m. Friday at the Tishman Speyer building, adjacent to Grand Central Station, and will feature performances by high school choral groups and adult groups.
“When you come to the concert, I urge you to bring tissues,” Swietlicki said in a news release.
