A Yonkers man is in custody after allegedly driving drunk and fatally striking a teenager with his car Friday night, the Yonkers Police Department said.
Waverly Patrick, 53, was driving in the area of 199 Valentine Ln. at 9:25 p.m. when he struck 16-year-old Keyiarra Price of Yonkers, according to police.
Witnesses called 911 to report the grisly collision, and to tell police that the driver sped away from the scene.
Price was brought by ambulance to Jacobi Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said.
Detectives at the scene interviewed witnesses, got a description of the car and began a search. At 2 a.m., detectives spotted Patrick's car and Patrick himself. They placed him under arrest and impounded his car as evidence, cops said.
Patrick, of 2 Hudson St., was charged with leaving the scene of an accident and driving while intoxicated, both misdemeanors. He was scheduled for arraignment late Saturday.
Attorney information for Patrick was not available Saturday. Police did not release a mug shot of the Yonkers man.
Detectives may upgrade the charges against Patrick, they said, as they press forward with their investigation.
Anyone with information on the collision can call the Yonkers Police Department's Detective Division at 914-377-7724. All calls will remain confidential. Witnesses can also send anonymous tips via the department's iPhone application.
