YONKERS - The City of Yonkers will start using a new state-of-the-art jail this weekend.

The jail has 20 cells for men, women and young people. Instead of housing prisoners, papers and files have been stored in the building for 22 years.

The city hopes to sell the old jail on Alexander Street to complement its waterfront development projects. But until that happens, it won't be sitting empty. Major film and television studios already have their eye on it.

The city will begin using the new jail on Sunday.
