Premise: A young FBI agent has to team up with an eccentric, volatile scientist and his estranged genius son to solve crimes involving fringe science, the science of the supposedly impossible.
First Impressions: Alex Graves, who helmed the pilots for "Journeyman" and "The Nine," is one of TV's underrated directors and the clips from "Fringe" look stylish and handsome, instantly establishing a visual template for an intriguing thriller. Joshua Jackson conveys instant rogue charm and Lance Reddick's stern assertiveness is only slowly beginning to be recognized by non-"Wire" viewers. Anna Torv and John Noble's attempted American accents are going to take a bit of getting used to. Will "Fringe" find enough levity under the darkness to compliment its "House" lead-in? We're intrigued.
