A woman was struck and killed while crossing Sunrise Highway in one of two pedestrian crashes Saturday night into Sunday morning, police said.

The woman, who has not yet been identified by police, was walking from north to south across the westbound lanes between New Highway and Court Street in Copiague when she was struck by a 2019 Chevrolet Traverse at about 9:15 p.m., according to a police news release.

The woman was transported to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip, where she was pronounced dead, police said.

The driver of the Chevrolet, Patrick Cooke, 62, of Islip, was not injured in the crash and has not been charged, police said. Cooke’s vehicle was impounded for a safety check.

First Squad detectives ask anyone with information on the crash to call 631-854-8152.

Hours later, a Huntington Station man was critically injured after being struck by a vehicle while walking on the northbound shoulder of West Hills Road in Dix Hills shortly after midnight Sunday, police said. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene, according to a police news release.

Amilar Velasquez, 37, was transported to Huntington Hospital in critical condition following the crash, police said.
