The region's most competitive runners will convene again at Eisenhower Park this weekend for a series of races, culminating in the Jovia Long Island Marathon in East Meadow on Sunday morning.

The festivities kicked off Friday night with a 5-kilometer run. Saturday featured a 10-kilometer race at 8 a.m. and 1-kilometer kids run at 11 a.m.

A health and fitness expo continues until 5 p.m. Saturday. A food truck festival will take place throughout the weekend.

The highlight of the weekend comes Sunday at 7:30 a.m. with hundreds of competitors slated to race in the half and full marathons.

Nearly 500 people ran the marathon last year and nearly 1,400 others in the half-marathon. The weekend event drew more than 2,600 participants, organizers said.

Sunday's road closures, beginning at 7 a.m., include Charles Lindbergh Boulevard, Earle Ovington Boulevard and parts of Merrick Avenue. Eisenhower Park's Park Boulevard will be closed at the Hempstead Turnpike and Merrick Avenue entrances.

Exits on the Meadowbrook State Parkway to Charles Lindbergh, the Nassau Coliseum and Nassau Community College will be closed from 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday.

All vehicles at the starting line Sunday must be credentialed. Race participants must use clear plastic bags provided by the race committee for personal belongings that will be searched by Nassau police K-9 dogs before being permitted at the finish line.

Only registered participants will be permitted into the marathon starting line area on Park Boulevard on Sunday. Spectators are not allowed to bring bags or other items into the starting area, police said.
