Cops: Hicksville man robbed 9 businesses within 3 weeks
A Hicksville man faces multiple charges after his arrest in connection with burglaries at nine Nassau businesses within the past three weeks — including one Tuesday, police said.
Jonathan Bird, 35, was taken into custody late Wednesday and charged with nine counts of third-degree burglary as well as second-degree harassment, criminal obstruction of breathing, and making a terroristic threat in a prior domestic incident, Nassau police said in a news release Thursday night.
Additional information about the harassment charge and the other offenses was not immediately released by police.
Bird will be arraigned when medically practical, police said, but they did not reveal the nature of his medical condition or whether he was hospitalized.
On Tuesday, Bird burglarized Sugar Bae Café on West Old Country Road in Old Westbury, about a half mile from his residence on First Street, police said.
His string of burglaries started May 5 in Hicksville with San Eduardo Deli on Jerusalem Avenue and Broadway Deli on Broadway, according to police. On May 8, Bird burglarized J & S Deli on Newbridge Road in Hicksville, police said. Next were The Bagel Shop on Old Country Road in New Cassel on May 17; Mala Madre Taqueria on Old County Road in Westbury on May 19; J & J Bagel and Deli on Glen Cove Road in Carle Place on Saturday, police said, and Deli Espinoza on Hempstead Turnpike in West Hempstead on Monday.
Police said Bird made off with an undisclosed amount of cash in the thefts.
