EDISON - A steam explosion at a business in Edison has injured four people, one of them seriously.

The incident at Bentley Laboratories in the Raritan Center business complex on Fieldcrest Avenue was reported just before 2 p.m.

Police say a steam pipe inside the building burst, igniting some cleaning supplies.

A 23-year-old male employee from West New York was flown to the burn unit at St. Barnabas Hospital, authorities say. He is reported to have second and third-degree burns.

Another employee, a 50-year-old from Perth Amboy, suffered a shoulder injury when he was struck by a piece of the broken pipe.

Two other employees were treated on the scene for minor injuries.
