4 Tappan Zee High students are Merit Scholarship semifinalists

Tappan Zee High School Principal Jennifer Amos has announced four seniors have been named as semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program.

The scholarship program honors the exceptional academic ability of individual students. Some 1.5 million juniors from throughout the nation entered the program when they took their PSAT exams last fall, and 16,000 have been selected as semifinalists.

Seniors Alex Han, Alexandria Nelson, David Rapoport, and Leon Zaruvinsky now enjoy that distinction. From those 16,000 semifinalists, about 15,000 are expected to advance to the finalist level, and in February they will be notified of that designation.

All National Merit Scholarship winners will be selected from the group of Finalists. Merit Scholar designees are selected on the basis of their skills, accomplishments and potential for success in rigorous college studies without regard to gender, race, ethnic origin or religious preference.

Tappan Zee High School is located at 15 Dutch Hill Rd. in Orangeburg and can be reached at 845-680-1606.
