Average weekly wages on LI, across the country

With that higher cost of living, it's expected that a higher average wage would follow; however, that's not always the case. It's no secret to anyone that Long Island is an expensive to place to live. With that higher cost of living, it's expected that a higher average wage would follow; however, that's not always the case. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics' most recent data, average weekly wages in Suffolk and Nassau are much closer to the national average of $1,055 per week than most would think. Here's how Suffolk and Nassau wages compare to other counties around the nation.

Suffolk County, N.Y. -- $1,134

Workers in Suffolk County received a weekly average wage of $1,134 as of June 2018, just $79 per week above the national average.

Nassau County, N.Y. -- $1,175

Nassau County workers make just a little more per week than their Suffolk counterparts, bringing in an average salary of $1,175 per week as of June 2018.

Queens County -- $1,062

Workers in Queens County received a weekly average wage of $1,062 as of June 2018.

Kings County -- $918

Workers in Kings County - also known as the borough of Brooklyn - received a weekly average wage of $918 as of June 2018.

New York County -- $2,025

Workers in New York County, which most refer to simply as Manhattan, received a weekly average wage of $2,025 as of June 2018 - almost double the national average.

Westchester County, N.Y. -- $1,353

Workers in Westchester County received a weekly average wage of $1,353 as of June 2018.

Fairfield County, Conn. -- $1,488

Workers in Fairfield County, Conn. received a weekly average wage of $1,488 as of June 2018.

Philadelphia County, Pa. -- $1,197

Workers in Philadelphia County, Pa. received a weekly average wage of $1,197 as of June 2018.

Lancaster County, Pa. -- $860

Workers in Lancaster County, known to tourists as one of the major homes of Pennsylvania's Amish population, received a weekly average wage of $860 as of June 2018.

Arlington County, Va. -- $1,653

Workers in Arlington County, Va. received a weekly average wage of $1,653 as of June 2018.

Virginia Beach City County, Va. -- $808

Workers in Virginia Beach City County, Va. received a weekly average wage of $808 as of June 2018.

Durham County, N.C. -- $1,256

Workers in Durham County, N.C., home to Duke University and part of North Carolina's Research Triangle, received a weekly average wage of $1,256 as of June 2018.

Horry County, S.C. -- $625

Horry County, the most eastern county in South Carolina and home to tourist destination Myrtle Beach, saw workers receive a weekly average wage of $625 as of June 2018.

Miami-Dade County, Fla. -- $1,000

Workers in Miami-Dade County, Fla. received a weekly average wage of $1,000 as of January 2018.

Cuyahoga County, Ohio -- $1,059

The average salary for workers in Cuyahoga County in Ohio reached $1,059 per week as of December 2017, just $4 per week above the national average. Cuyahoga County is home to Cleveland, Ohio's second largest city.

Dallas County, Texas -- $1,246

Workers in Dallas County, Texas received a weekly average wage of $1,246 as of June 2018.

King County, Wash. -- $1,605

Home to Seattle, King County, Wash. saw workers receive a weekly average wage of $1,605 as of June 2018. Washington is known for being one of seven states without a personal income tax, making that average wage potentially worth even more.

Multnomah County, Ore. -- $1,109

Workers in Multnomah County, home to Oregon's largest city, Portland, received a weekly average wage of $1,109 as of June 2018.

Boulder County, Colo. -- $1,235

Workers in Boulder County, Colo. received a weekly average wage of $1,235 as of June 2018.

Yellowstone County, Montana -- $901

Workers in Yellowstone County, Montana, which includes the city of Billings, received a weekly average wage of $901 as of June 2018.

Washoe County, Nev. -- $944

Workers in Washoe County, Nev., which includes the city of Reno, received a weekly average wage of $944 as of June 2018.

Santa Clara County, Calif. -- $2,573

Home to the famed Silicon Valley, Santa Clara County, Calif. saw workers receive a weekly average wage of $2,573 as of June 2018.

Honolulu County, Hawaii -- $994

Workers in Honolulu County, Hawaii, which includes the entire island of O'ahu, received a weekly average wage of $994 as of June 2018.

Anchorage Borough, Alaska -- $1,105

Workers in Alaska's largest city received an average of $1,105 per week as of June 2018.

San Juan, Puerto Rico -- $668

Workers in San Juan County in the U.S. territory of Puerto Rico received a weekly average wage of $668 as of June 2018.
