13 cars you can't buy in the U.S.

There are some cars that U.S consumers would love to get their hands on -- but they're not available in the States. Some are models that rode the American roads in the past and others are ones that have never been for sale in America.

Check out some offerings from some of the world's automakers that for one reason or another, aren't for sale in the United States.

Alfa-Romeo Giulietta

While you can buy certain Alfa-Romeo models in the United States, such as the Giulia, 4C and Stelvio, the Giulietta isn't for sale in this country.

Audi S1

Audi's S1 is the smallest version of the A1, and it is available in Europe.

Chevrolet Orlando

Despite sharing its name with the city in Florida, the Chevy Orlando has never been solid in the United States, having been sold in Canada, Korea and Europe.


Ford EcoSport

The Ford EcoSport, a crossover SUV, is currently available in South America, Mexico, India, Japan and in Europe. The good news for U.S. customers wanting to buy one is it will be available for sale in this country starting in 2018.

Ford Ranger

A familiar name in American trucks, the Ford Ranger was produced from 1983 to 2011 in North America. While the model stopped being produced for the U.S. market, it was sold overseas. Ford announced that the Ranger would return to the U.S. lineup for the 2019 model year.

Lada Vesta

Russian-made Lada's most popular car, the Vesta, is only sold in the Russian market, but eventually will make its way to Europe.

Lotus Elise

British-made Lotus Elise was available in the United States until 2011, then it was unable to be sold in the country due to the expiration of the waiver the company had on its lack of smart airbags.

Peugeot 2008

While the French-made Peugeot 2008 is available around most of the world, including Mexico, its models aren't sold in the United States.

Toyota Aygo

Toyota's city car, the Aygo, is only sold in Europe, and is manufactured in the Czech Republic.

Toyota Hilux

The Toyota Hilux pickup is available worldwide -- except for the United States, Canada, Japan, North and South Korea and India.

Volkswagen Polo

The Volkswagen Polo announced its sixth-generation model at the Paris auto show in 2017, but despite being for sale since 1975, it never has hit the U.S. market.

Volkswagen Scirocco

The Volkswagen Scirocco was sold in the United States from 1975 until 1988, when it was replaced by the Corrado. But the Scirocco lives on outside North America, with the hatchback still being sold in Europe.

Volkswagen Transporter

While the Transporter was known as the Vanagon or EuroVan during previous incarnations in the United States, its current version is sold only in North America south of the border in Mexico.
