It has been reported that the most expensive puppy ever bought was a Tibetan Mastiff, purchased in 2014 for almost $2 million. People looking for dogs can easily find an amazing canine companion at a local shelter for little or no cost, but for those seeking a high-priced pup from a professional breeder — well, that’s really up to the breeder, and those rates can soar. Here’s a very basic breakdown of the more expensive dogs for sale, as well as a bit about the pooches.

Old English Sheepdog

Tibetan Mastiff

PUPPY PRICE RANGE: $2,000 STATS: Mellow by nature, these dogs were bred in Tibet as guard dogs. Averaging approximately 24-30 inches in height, males can weigh over 150 pounds and the breed tends to live an average age of 13-14.

Pharaoh Hound

Samoyed

PUPPY PRICE RANGE: $1,000 STATS: Known to be gentle, curious, energetic and friendly, Samoyeds (also known as "Sammies") were bred for hard work in cold locales, average 21-24 inches in height. They live to an approximate age of 13.

German Shepherd
