Newly acquired Nets forward Kenneth Faried was arrested in Bridgehampton early Sunday and charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, Lt. Susan C. Ralph of the Southampton Town Police Department said Tuesday.
According to the police report, Faried was driving through a DWI sobriety checkpoint at about 1:30 a.m. when “a strong odor of marijuana was emanating from inside the vehicle.” Police said Faried had more than two ounces of marijuana in his possession
An undisclosed sum of cash belonging to Faried also was seized, Ralph said. Faried was released on $500 bail. No date was set for his court appearance.
The police report said two other passengers in the automobile, identified as Taurean Knuckles, 33, of New York, and Atar Hajali, 35, of Georgia, also were arrested and charged with unlawful possession of marijuana. Both were released on an appearance ticket.
“We are aware of the situation involving Kenneth Faried and are in the process of gathering more information at this time,” the Nets said in a statement.
Faried, 28, was traded to the Nets from the Nuggets in July. Faried, who has $13.8 million left on his contract, appeared in only 32 games with the Nuggets last season.
