The Container Store, a privately owned Texas retailer, said Monday it will open a new store in Westbury this fall, in a 24,000 square foot space at the Gallery at Westbury Plaza.
The store will hire 80 new employees, Olescia Hanson, public relations manager, said in an email Monday morning.
No further details on the planned location were immediately disclosed in the company's news release. It will be the fourth Container Store in New York State, with sites already open in Westchester and Manhattan.
The company, which features Elfa closet components, bills itself as "the nation's originator and leading retailer of storage and organization products."
The company said it stands out from the competition in its approach to employee development.
"Each full-time salesperson receives more than 263 hours of training in their first year compared to the retail industry average of seven to 10 hours," the company said.
"In addition, the retailer pays its employees 50 to 100 percent higher than retail industry average," the company said.
When the Westbury store opens, the company will choose a not-for-profit organization to receive 10 percent of its first weekend's sales "as part of the retailer's commitment to give back to its local communities."
With the Westbury store, along with five other stores to open this year in other states, there will be 59 Container Stores nationwide, the company said. The year's planned new stores will generate 400 jobs, the company said; it did not offer a jobs breakdown by location.
