Westbury-based New York Community Bancorp Inc. has 210 branches but until now they've been run with two different data systems.
One system served the 35 branches of the New York Commercial Bank.
The other served the 175 branches of the New York Community Bank.
Now for the first time all the branches are linked in the same system, so Commercial bank customers and Community bank customers have more ATMs and teller windows in their data network.
The system conversion took place June 20, the bank company said in a news release this week.
"The ability to interbank has been on our agenda since we added New York Commercial Bank to our banking family, and we are very pleased that this convenience is now a reality," Joseph R. Ficalora, the company chief executive, above left, said.
Commercial Bank customers now have access to extended evening and weekend hours, including some Community Bank branches open seven days a week.
