Singer Billy Joel has put his two adjacent oceanfront properties in Sagaponack up for sale. You can buy them separately, but if you want them both, it'll cost you a mere $35 million.
The larger home, a four-bedroom, six-bathroom beach house at 9 Gibson Lane - purchased in June 2007 from the late "Jaws" actor Roy Scheider and since renovated and decorated by designer Nate Berkus - is going for $22.5 million.
Joel bought the two-story home, overlooking the ocean and bordering farmland, for $16.75 million as a surprise for Katie Lee Joel, former host of Bravo's "Top Chef" series, whom he married in 2004. The relationship has soured and divorce is on the horizon.
In 2007, he purchased the adjacent property at 23 Gibson Lane - a one-story, three-bedroom oceanfront bungalow for $11.6 million - for which he is now asking $12.5 million.
Despite a still challenging economy, "a gem is a gem," said Biana Stepanian, vice president in The Corcoran Group's Sag Harbor office, the listing agent for both properties. Those with the financial wherewithal, as well as "a strong sense of place" and "love of water," will find these properties appealing, she said.
Joel also owns a Tudor-style waterfront mansion in Centre Island, which he bought in late 2002 for $22 million. Last year, he had that property up for sale listed for $32.5 million.
