To some, a hot car or designer watch is a sought-after status symbol.
To Twitter users, that would be having their first names as their Twitter handles (the name you go by, preceded by the @ sign).
So, one gave pause last night at meeting Raymond Garraud at the Long Island Tweetup in Huntington -- this to see @ray on his name badge.
Yes, he said, he was an early adopter, and yes, he signed on to Twitter in November 2006, back when lots of names were up for grabs. He lay claim to his, and says “my excitement of having the @ray twitter handle has certainly grown over the years.”
Of special note is that Garraud is not by profession a tekkie nerd. He’s an insurance broker in Jericho, whose tweet subjects range from day-to-day happenings to leadership techniques to Superbowl commercials. For a solid year, he says, he tweeted one Haiku poem a day.
