KEY EVENT: An update on Long Island jobs and a closely watched Federal Reserve meeting highlight a busy last week of fall.

MONDAY: The Federal Reserve Bank of New York releases the December Empire State index, an update on state manufacturing activity. Also, the economic optimism survey from the National Association of Home Builders. Earnings: Oracle, software maker Red Hat.

TUESDAY: November housing starts from the Commerce Department. Earnings: Olive Garden owner Darden Restaurants, FedEx.

WEDNESDAY: The Federal Reserve ends a two-day meeting with a decision on interest rates. The central bank has signaled it will raise rates at the meeting. After the meeting, Fed chairman Jerome Powell holds a news conference. Also, November existing-home sales from the National Association of Realtors. Earnings: General Mills, payroll-services provider Paychex.

THURSDAY: The state Labor Department releases jobs added on Long Island in November. Also, jobless benefits claims for the week ended Dec. 15 from the U.S. Labor Department. Earnings: consulting-services provider Accenture, BlackBerry, Birds Eye owner ConAgra Brands, Nike.

FRIDAY: Three reports from the Commerce Department: November durable goods orders, the third and final estimate of third-quarter GDP and personal income and spending in November.
